Join us for an evening with one of the top tier chefs in the Pacific Northwest, Greg Atkinson. We will celebrate the publication of his new book, At the Kitchen Table: The Craft of Cooking at Home. This is a collection of stories and recipes from an accomplished writer and gifted chef. Oven Spoonful and Michael’s Seafood and Steakhouse will be preparing a number of recipes from the book for you to taste. Wine on the Waterfront will pair the wine.Greg Atkinson brings to the page the salty air of gathering shellfish in Puget Sound, the earthy aroma of beets pulled from the soil, and the surprising normalcy of preparing dinner for Martha Stewart. In Atkinson’s world, what defines a great meal has less to do with how rare the extra-virgin olive oil happens to be than it does with how in tune the people at the table are with the food and with one another. At the Kitchen Table is about the meaning of eating, the culinary web, and about finding the special sanctuary that is the home kitchen.Greg Atkinson came of age in Northwest kitchens, working as a chef at a small café, then at an inn on San Juan Island, and eventually donning the top toque at Seattle’s venerable Canlis Restaurant. He is a winner of the James Beard Foundation’s M.F.K. Fisher Distinguished Writing Award. Greg can be heard on Seattle’s public radio station, KUOW, and seen on KCTS 9 Chefs. His cookbooks include West Coast Cooking, Northwest Essentials, and Entertaining in the Northwest Style, all published by Sasquatch Books.Greg Atkinson will soon be opening Restaurant Marche, a contemporary Northwest bistro on Bainbridge Island.Thank you to our friends at Wine on the Waterfront who have graciously provided us with the venue for this evening. Space for this evening is very limited. Tickets are thirty five dollars including a copy of the book, or twenty five dollars without the book. We will have Greg’s other books at the event available for him to sign.
