Description

"Distributed by the University of Nebraska Press for the University of Idaho Press"
Considering accounts written by Northwest Coast marine tourists between 1861 and 1990, Nancy Pagh examines the ways that gender influences the roles that women play at sea, the spaces they occupy on boats, and the language they use to describe their experiences, their natural surroundings, and their contacts with Native peoples.

About the Author

Dr. Nancy Pagh, a native of Anacortes, Washington, grew up travelling the San Juan Islands and the Gulf Islands by boat and has written about the Northwest Coast since the age of twelve. She currently teaches English at Western Washington University, Bellingham.
